Are you a military veteran who’s transitioning to the civilian workforce? If you have experience driving military vehicles, a career as a truck driver might be a natural choice for your next career. Not only will you be able to put your skills to good use, but you may also qualify for a skills waiver, putting you in the driver’s seat in no time at all. At USA Truck, we’ve always been passionate supporters of the U.S military. After all, one of our founders was an Air Force veteran and military veterans have accounted for a significant number of our team members over the years.
We are so excited to offer a new training program for transitioning military or current National Guard and Reservists. This new program is four weeks of over-the-road (OTR) training and experience to help you learn the ins and outs of becoming a professional driver here at USA Truck. With your experience driving military vehicles, you will likely be eligible for the Military Skills Test Waiver. This waives the road skills test portion of the requirements needed to obtain your CDL-A. If you’re unable to get this waiver, we’re happy to recommend an accredited driving school - and we provide a tuition reimbursement too!
Pay during training is $85 per day for the first four weeks or until 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Once you’ve completed training, pay will be based on your division. Most veterans joining our team can expect to make $52,000-$70,000 per year. We have veterans already working for us who are available to transitioning military to answer questions, address any concerns and help you in any way. Whether it’s navigating the transition-to-civilian process while being stationed overseas or needing personal support as you make this major change in your life, we understand the challenges you face when exiting the service and do whatever we can to make it as easy as possible.
To drive with us, you’ll need to be at least 21 years old, have a minimum of two years verified experience in the military driving heavy equipment with a good driving record, have a valid CDL-A and pass a background check. We also have one of the best lease purchase programs in the industry. To qualify for a lease purchase, you’ll need to have at least six months of driving experience.
If you have questions about whether transitioning from the military to a truck driving career is the right move for you, call 800-643-2530 to connect with our veteran program coordinator. We also have free virtual web meetings on the 1st and 15th of each month to give you more information about our military-to-commercial program.
