Not only is today Valentine’s Day, it’s also National Donor Day, which is dedicated to sharing love by raising awareness on the importance of five types of donations: organs, marrow, tissues, platelets, and blood. USA Truck recognizes how important of a topic this is and wants to join the campaign to raise awareness.

We know talking about organ and tissue donation can be an uncomfortable topic – and maybe a little scary. But deciding to be an organ donor is a noble cause that makes you a hero! Every day, donations save the lives of those in need. Here’s some facts that illustrate just how lifechanging registering as an organ donor can be!

  1. One organ donor can save as many as eight lives.
  2. Tissue donation from one person can heal more than 75 people.
  3. Eye donation can give sight back to two people.
  4. 70% of patients who need a bone marrow transplant do not have a matching donor in their family.
  5. Every 30 seconds there is a patient who needs a donation of platelets.
  6. There is a total of 41,000 blood donations needed daily. Every 2 seconds, someone needs a transfusion.
  7. A new name is added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes. There are currently 113,000 people on the list.
