Spotlight on USA Truck’s orientation instructor BOBBI HUNT

Posted: March 18, 2022

As part of March’s Women’s History Month, we will be featuring some of the incredible women of USA Truck. Today, we introduce you to Bobbi Hunt, our amazing Waxahachie, Texas, Orientation Instructor, who sat down to answer questions about her unique career and her eight years with USA Truck.

Q: We heard that you have had a unique career path. Could you talk to us about it?
A: Before anything else I have always been a mom first. I love to be able to go to family functions and any event my kids may have going on. It has not been easy, but with some of the best driver managers and planners I have worked with during my time as a driver, I did not miss a beat.

Prior to all of that, I was in the retail industry for 14 years, but I have always been a driver at heart. Whenever we took a trip that involved driving, I was always the driver for my family.  Before the gas prices skyrocketed, I would often go get lost and just drive around. Driving is therapy for me, it allows me to think and clear my mind. Now I have transitioned to being an orientation instructor, because I needed to be home more to take care of my mother and my kids. I look forward to being able to work with new drivers as they begin their new career in driving.

Q: Where is your hometown?
A: I was born and raised in South Bend, Ind., but I currently reside in Duncanville, Texas.

Q: What three words describe you?
A: Hard-working, sincere, caring.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: Spend time with my kids.

Q: Favorite quote or mantra?
A: Love is stronger than hate.

Q: What woman has most influenced you in your life and/or career?
A: My mother. She worked 40 years in the manufacturing industry, took care of her three daughters and has had a hand with helping to raise her 10 grandkids, all while being positive and caring and not hesitating to help whoever she could.

Q: Best advice you’ve ever been given?
A: Anything worth having doesn’t come easy, so work hard and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Q: What would be your advice to other women entering this industry?
A:  Don’t be intimidated. Just relax, take a breath and move slow.

Q: What advice would you give to the next generation of women?
A: Anything is possible as long as you put in the work to do it. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do, with hard work and determination you can do anything.

Q: If you could give your teenage or childhood self a piece of advice, what would it be?
A: Take your time and enjoy the journey.

Q: What challenges have you faced in your career, and how have you overcome them?
A: Simple things like backing into a dock and having a small warehouse coming out to watch.  I take my time and relax and put it in the hole. I get out of my truck with a smile on my face and they always say, “Wow, you back in better than a lot of the men that come here.”

Q: What challenge(s) remains for women today? How can understanding history help us to overcome them?
A:  There are still situations where women are more qualified for a job and are being passed over for men. There is still a gap in wages between men and women. Women are just as much an asset as men and their contributions have to be recognized, because if not, we will make our own way.

Q: How do you think companies can strive to be more inclusive to women in the workplace?
A: Talk to the women in their companies and really listen and try to understand what they are presenting to you. After talking, action must be put in place to address the concerns and needs of women. Also, placing more women in high-ranking executive positions will help workplaces become more inclusive.

Women’s History Month celebrates women’s contributions to history, culture and society. USA Truck honors all the women like Bobbi Hunt who broke, and continue to break, barriers and pave the way for future generations.
