What Truck Drivers Make Per Mile Is Important, But Don’t Forget About The Benefits

Post Date - Nov 6, 2019

It’s common to talk about pay when comparing trucking jobs. You want to know how much truck drivers make per mile or what the average truck driver salary is at each company you’re considering. While your paycheck is definitely important, it shouldn’t be the only thing that factors into your decision. It’s equally as important to look at the benefits companies offer in order to get the full picture of how much value they bring to the table. At USA Truck, we’re big believers in supporting our team whether you’re a regional truck driver or drive OTR. That’s why our total compensation packages are designed to bring you some of the best benefits and top pay in the industry:

Truck driver pay

We’re proud to be a 2019 Top Pay Certified Carrier. Our 20-year pay scale provides our drivers with annual pay raises and gives them the ability to earn more than the industry’s average pay per mile for truck drivers. We also have a number of bonus pay opportunities with our loyalty bonus, fuel/idle bonus, productivity pay, and our $4,000 driver referral bonus.

Home time

How often truck drivers come home is important to know when comparing carriers. At USA Truck, we offer flexible scheduling so our drivers can be home for important events and spend valuable time with their friends and family. Our team drivers get home a minimum of every four weeks while our company truck drivers get home time every 10-14 days. We can get our regional truck drivers home weekly for a 34-hour reset or they can opt to get home every 10-14 days with a day off for every week they’re out.

Insurance benefits

USA Truck has a number of different insurance benefits available to our truck drivers. These include medical, dental and vision insurance programs as well as a life insurance plan. Drivers can utilize a flexible spending account to save for out-of-pocket healthcare costs on a pretax basis. They can also receive $50 off every month for being nicotine free.

Student driver tuition reimbursement

Recent CDL graduates can earn a starting pay up to 35 cents per mile and have the opportunity to earn as much as 40.5 cents per mile within their first year as a truck driver. They can also be eligible to earn our monthly safety and performance bonuses up to 5 cents per mile. Already have your CDL? We offer a truck driving school tuition reimbursement up to $5,000.

Retirement planning

It’s important to plan ahead. Truck driver retirement age can vary depending on several factors, including lifestyle goals and health. We want to help you prepare for your retirement years, whether that’s in the near or distant future. That’s why we provide our truck drivers with a 401k with company match and an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) to maximize your retirement savings.

State-of-the-art trucking equipment

Having access to the best as a truck driver keeps you moving more consistently and more safely on the road. Our fleet averages 2.5 years old and consists of Kenworth, Freightliner and International trucks. Since we don’t do slip seating, you’re able to take your equipment home with you to maximize each truck driver’s home time.
